Description:
Small, upright flycatcher with distinct frequently cocked tail and large dark eye. Male has red throat and upper breast, and creamy-white rest of underparts. Female lacks grey cast to crown and face of male, and underparts are creamy-white, suffused with buff on breast.
Distribution:
Common passage migrant through central areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit and Diamer. Prefers tall trees with much undergrowth, light canopy, open forest, scrub at cultivation edges, orchards and roadside trees, up to 2500m.
Behavior:
Hunts mainly from middle to lower layers, hopping and creeping among foliage. Makes short, looping sallies to catch prey in the air, with agile flight and rapid wingbeats; frequently forages from the ground, including among grass. Eats mainly insects and other invertebrates, especially beetles and spiders, but also other adult and larval flies, bugs and insects and snails.
